Seychelles Trip - LaDigue Island - May 2003
(click any picture to get enlargement)

From Mahe we boarded an Air Seychelles plane.

We flew for 15 minutes; over some nice islands ...

.. and then to picturesque airport on Praslin.

A taxi met us at the airport and took us across the island to the ferry terminal.  We then took a 30 minute ferry ride to
La Digue; another taxi then took us to our hotel.

La Digue is very small, about 6 miles across.  There are only 15 vehicles allowed on the island, so ox carts and bicycles are the main modes of transportation.

Looking back at Praslin after the ferry ride.

The palm trees made for picturesque scenes.

The sun setting behind the "Sister Islands".

We found that one of the best snorkeling spots on the island was across the street from our hotel.

We usually snorkeled in the early morning and again each afternoon.

There were so many beaches that  ...

...  we could have as much privacy as we wanted.

The only setback were the prices of food and drink!

We rented bicycles one day and visited the other side of the island ...

... which had less wind protection; thus the beaches had nice waves.

The currents and undertow were so strong that we couldn't swim.

<== Jay found some
granite rocks to climb.

There was also a
nice lagoon, but the
water was black ==>

We then went to the "most photographed beach in the world".  It was very pretty, especially when the sun hit at certain angles.  It also had granite rocks that stuck  out at wonderful angles; at times it looked like we were on a different planet!

We found a giant tortoise walking down the road; we found it to be hungry.

We found others at a reserve; they were happy to get fed & massaged.

At this point we thought that Mahe had the best swimming beaches and
La Digue had the best  beaches to look at.

La Digue also had good snorkeling ...

... but we heard that the next island, Praslin, had the best snorkeling.
