Iguazu Tour #4 - Boat Ride (Argentina)

After completing tours #1 - #3  (see map to the right), we got ready to go for a boat ride!

We had to hike quite a distance (see #4 on the map) down to the water level.  We boarded the boat and they first took us to the falls on the right.  We passed by the areas that we had just toured.  After that they took us to the left and up towards the "throat".

Then, to finish the tour, they took us  down river through some rapids.  We came to another docking area where we boarded a safari vehicle.  They gave us an informational tour while taking us back to the parking area.

As we started our hike down towards the river, we could see other boats going through the same routine we would take.  They first staged themselves to let people get pictures.  After everything was securely packed away in watertight bags, they sped under the falls with the biggest flow of water.

They had to drive fast to get near the falls, as the current was very fast. How far under will they go?

Just into the mist area.

After the refreshing dip the boat came back at a very high speed, as it was going with the current.

A little further down the trail we had a great view of the "throat".  Our boat would only visit one of the little waterfalls on the side.

We got to the river area and were given life jackets and a safety demonstration... then into the boat!
We got into a queue and watched the boat in front of us enter the waterfall and then emerge with some wet, but smiling passengers. This was my only picture of this part, as it was very wet!

We easily survived that part of the ride; even though I barely got my camera put away in time.  We zoomed past the docking area and rounded the corner, heading towards the "Throat of Iguazu".
We headed upstream, but the guide said that we could only 'visit' one of the falls along the side... what did he mean by visit?

There was a cameraman on board and he suddenly pointed towards the falls in front of us.
The boat in front of us sped under the falls, disappearing for a few seconds.  We followed shortly afterwards, and we quickly understood what our guide meant by "visiting a waterfall".

We then had a little time to relax and unpack our dry things, as we were done "visiting" the falls.

We started downstream and  could see the steep banks of the Brazilian side; we will visit that side of the falls tomorrow.

Suddenly there was a scream and then we saw a bungee jumping platform ... no thanks!

The river was moving very fast and the driver gunned the engines to show us how fast the boat could go with the current.... we were nearly flying!

The picture on the far right is another boat that was going upstream earlier in the day; it gives you an idea of what we were riding in.... quite fun!

We didn't see as many birds as we thought we would, but these guys were nice.  The nests were also amazing.

The lizards and iguanas were quite abundant.
They were just basking in the sun and didn't seem too bothered by us.

We never figured out what this guy was, but he looked quite cute.

Luckily these guys were kept in a protective area.  They were displayed to warn the 'stupid tourists' that this park contains wildlife and that leaving the trails is not allowed... I agree!
