Iguazu Tour #1 - The 'Throat' (Argentina)
(click any picture to get enlargement)

We got up early for breakfast... and then waited 90 minutes for our tour guide to show up.  After complaining, we finally got our 30 min. ride to the Iguazu Falls area.

We had signed up for multiple tours, the first of which is mapped out on the right.  We took a "tourist train" from the parking area to a station near the river.  From the station we hiked across on a long walking bridge to get to the "Throat of Iguazu"; see the red route #1 on the map.

Because of our late pick-up, we were behind the rest of our tour group.  We were told to look for a guide named "Carlos Martinez";  what a hassle!

The big version of this picture shows the walking bridge. The bridge was new and sturdy; the old bridge was still visible. We walked very fast and caught up to our tour group; yeah!

Looking down the river, it seemed quite normal. After a while you could see some mist; this isn't a normal river!  Looking a little upstream we began to see some white water.

As we walked further upstream, the roar of the falls became deafening; the "throat" was near!

We took a "tourist shot" and then looked over the other side of the railing... whew, don't fall!

To the left were some smaller waterfalls that lined the side of the gorge.

On the other side of the river was the Brazilian side of the falls.  We will visit that side tomorrow.

The start of the "Throat"
The amount of water, and the speed that it was traveling, was quite amazing.  We were told the water was low, so imagine what it could be like!  In the closer picture, you can see the turmoil of the water.

These last pictures give you an idea of how close we were to the top of the main waterfall.

Unfortunately there was too much mist to get pictures of where the water hits the bottom.  A lot of mist came up and I had to wait quite a while for a long clearing to get these pictures.

Even with the hassles, we were  happy with the tour at this point!
